Many try, but few musicians have the tenacity to endlessly tour and make a name for themselves by playing and touring at a nonstop rate. Kiri Jewell sat down with Mieka to talk about everything from the creative process of penning a song to sharing couches with cats all across the country. READ MORE

Text by David Herrle
Pic byDaniel Altherr

Though Alexander had adored the blues since boyhood, adult social madness complicated his adoration and, consequently, his simultaneous love for jazz. Instead of simple, direct teenhood edification, adult Alexander felt like an interloper in the post-African “blood rite” implied in the blues. READ MORE

Her doe-eyes are rimmed in a heavy black kohl, a fringe of fake eyelashes emanate like
porcupines. READ MORE

the rise of Reason
By Lisa Rierson
I have not, since my first peek of John Webster or Poe in early high school, had a taste for macabre inclinations or perspectives. I am drawn toward that ever-penetrating sensation that comes with someone putting their most treacherously critical times out there for people to visit and acquiesce. I appreciate sincerity in art and it is really what brought me around to revisit Mark Hosford's work. READ MORE
